Permission backups & recovery

Schedule daily or weekly permission backups

Set a local backup time, check the next run, and pause or resume a schedule.

Quick answer

Select a saved site or library, then use Scheduled backups to choose Daily or Weekly, a local time, and a time zone. Enable the schedule and choose Save schedule. Scheduled captures are free and never approve recovery.

Your next step

Confirm the tenant is connected and the selected scope is correct, then review the displayed next backup time after saving.

Save a schedule

  1. Open Permission backups and choose the workspace and Site or library.
  2. Under Save permission backups, find Scheduled backups.
  3. Choose Backup frequency: Daily or Weekly. For Weekly, also choose Backup day.
  4. Enter Backup time and Backup time zone. Use a named zone such as America/Chicago so daylight saving changes are handled for that location.
  5. Select Enable scheduled backups for this scope, then choose Save schedule.
  6. Check Status, Next backup, and the time zone in the saved summary. Each scope has one schedule; saving new settings replaces its future cadence.

Understand when a backup starts

  • Backups normally start within five minutes of the chosen time, subject to service availability and queue delay.
  • An active backup or recovery for that scope delays the scheduled capture. Missed occurrences are combined into one backup rather than replaying every missed time.
  • The schedule follows the selected time zone. A repeated local time runs once; a skipped local time runs at the next valid local minute.
  • A scheduled capture appears in the existing backup history with the label Scheduled permission backup. Review its status and coverage just as you would for a manual backup.

Pause, resume, or edit

Pause schedule stops future automatic captures. A backup already queued or running finishes. Resume schedule calculates the next future run; it does not replay all times missed while paused.

Change the frequency, day, time, or time zone and choose Save schedule to update the future cadence. If another edit conflicts, choose Refresh schedule, review the saved settings, and try again.

If a scheduled backup needs attention

Check the last scheduled backup status and any error in the schedule panel, then inspect the corresponding history entry. Reconnect a disconnected tenant before enabling new captures. You can still pause its existing schedule.

A failed or interrupted capture is not a usable replacement for your previous baseline. Review the error and coverage; a later scheduled occurrence starts a new capture. Saving or pausing a schedule does not automatically delete older saved backups.
