Quick answer
Choose the desired saved baseline and a separate recent backup of current permissions, then choose Compare permissions. Read the difference rows and select the changes you want to review. Comparing and preparing a plan are free.
Your next step
Take a fresh backup after the access change, then compare it with the baseline from the same scope.
Choose the two backups
Select the workspace and Site or library containing both saved backups.
In Compare and select changes, choose Saved baseline: the permissions you want to recover.
For Compare with, choose a different, recent backup taken after the access change.
Choose Compare permissions. Read the difference count and the rows below it. Zero differences means the saved permissions match for the compared coverage; check coverage before drawing a wider conclusion.

Column
Meaning
Object / recipient
The site, list/library, file/folder, or list item and the user or group affected.
Difference
The missing, extra, changed-role, inheritance, or other difference between the two saved records.
Saved access
The baseline access you chose as the recovery reference.
Compared access
The access recorded in the recent comparison backup.
Select
Choose an eligible difference for the recovery plan. Disabled entries have a limitation or do not fit the selected mode.
Choose what recovery may change
Changing the recovery mode or inheritance choice clears the previous selection. Select the intended rows again after changing these controls. Sharing-link differences can be inspected but cannot be recreated or removed by permission recovery.
Recovery mode
Behavior
Restore missing access only
Adds eligible missing assignments. Use this when you want to restore missing access without selecting role corrections or removals.
Match selected access
Can correct permission levels and remove selected extra access as well as add missing access. Review every proposed operation.
Allow selected inheritance repairs
A separate opt-in for inheritance changes. Enable it and select the inheritance difference; recovery still checks the parent’s current access.
Select and review
Select the checkbox beside each intended eligible difference. The selected count updates above the table.
Choose Load more differences when offered to inspect additional comparison rows.
Select up to 200 changes per recovery, then choose Review selected recovery.
The button shows Preparing recovery while the plan and credit estimate load. When ready, the page moves to Review recovery and results.
Review the actual operations before approving. Selecting rows and preparing a draft do not apply permissions or consume restore credits.
