Connections & discovery

Scan tenants or specific SharePoint sites

Choose a manageable scan scope and understand what to check when a site is missing.

Quick answer

Use the tenant scan for broad discovery or Specific site URLs for a focused set of sites. Enter source and destination URLs in their matching fields.

Your next step

For an initial pilot, scan the exact source and destination site URLs you intend to match.

Scan specific sites

  1. Open the project and expand Scan options.
  2. Select Specific site URLs. Enter one source site URL per line and one destination site URL per line in the corresponding fields.
  3. Use site addresses, rather than a document's sharing URL or a library view link. You can specify up to 100 site URLs per side.
  4. Review Restore shares to groups before starting the source scan.
  5. Run Scan source tenant and Scan destination tenant. Wait for their status to finish, then match the returned sites.

A site scan is the first level of discovery

The project scan finds sites and OneDrives to match. Batch preparation then inventories the selected content and sharing information. Finding a site does not mean every file and permission has already been evaluated.

Keep the scope small enough that you can review the destination matches and the proposed changes. If a configured item or depth limit is reached, review the scan's status and scope before treating the inventory as complete.

If the expected site or OneDrive is absent

  1. Confirm the tenant card is connected to the intended tenant.
  2. Check that the source and destination URLs were entered on the correct side and that the address is the site's current address.
  3. Read the scan job's completion or error detail. A queued or failed scan is not a complete catalog.
  4. Confirm the connected application can read that site. A site administrator's own browser access does not prove the connector has access.
  5. If the destination content has not been provisioned or migrated yet, complete that work and scan again.
